Children's Strategy

10 year Strategy for Children and Young People in Northern Ireland 2006-2016

The strategy includes strategic goals in key areas affecting children and young people and takes into account the role of parents and families. It also examines the scope for achieving a more joined up approach within Government to children's issues.
The draft strategy was available for consultation from the 24 November 2004 to 28 February 2005. The main strategy was launched on 20 June 2006 in Good Shepherd Primary School, Poleglass, Belfast.

Children and Young People's Strategy Action Plans

A one year action plan was initially developed for the period 2007-2008:
The one year plan has since been reviewed and a progress report produced:
A new three year Strategy Action Plan has now been developed for the period 2008-2011.  This sets out what will be done by all eleven Northern Ireland departments, the Northern Ireland Office and the Northern Ireland Court Service to deliver improved outcomes for all children and young people here.  It has been agreed that it will be a living document open to review and amendment:
A young people's version of the three year action plan has also been developed which was used during a process of consultation with children and young people.  We asked them to tell us what they thought about the action plan and whether we are doing the right things:
We held a conference "Be Seen, Be Heard" on the 21st November to conclude the consultation and celebrate the 20th anniversary of the UNCRC. We have now completed a report, outlining the key issues the young people identified.
